A soft dog toy doesn’t need a squeaker to have plenty going for it.
There’s the shape that’s just right for carrying. The tail that invites a shake. The familiar face brought over when someone would very much like you to put down what you’re doing.
If you’re looking for dog toys without squeakers, our Fluff & Tuff Hush Plush squeakerless dog toy collection brings together those possibilities with the brand’s soft fabrics and reinforced construction. Jasper Fox, Finn Koi and Red Squirrel are made without an internal squeaker, leaving plenty of room for play.
For some homes, non-squeaky dog toys are the everyday choice. For others, they’re a useful addition to a toy box that already has quite enough to say.
Part of the appeal is that the toy answers back.
A dog squeezes it, a sound happens, and they can make it happen again. For a dog who enjoys that response, producing the squeak becomes part of the game.
Squeaky toys are also often discussed in relation to hunting instincts, but that explanation doesn’t tell us everything about an individual dog’s enjoyment. The sound, movement, texture and interaction can all be part of what makes a particular toy interesting.
We’ve certainly noticed that squeaks can add to the excitement with our dogs, especially Kizzie.
Our Golden Retriever has always been able to go from zero to a hundred remarkably quickly. We’ve never avoided squeaky toys, but we haven’t made a habit of walking around squeaking them to get her going, either.
Sometimes, during play, she would carry a toy around and squeeze it repeatedly. She knew how to make the sound happen, and she kept it going.
We haven’t seen our dogs become frightened by squeakers. For Kizzie, it seemed very much part of the enjoyment. But there were times when we wanted the play to stay busy without quite so much of the soundtrack.
Still fun. A little more ease alongside the excitement.
A squeakerless toy takes away that particular sound response. It doesn’t take away the game.
Your dog can still carry it, chase it, shake it or bring it to you. Whether they play differently without the squeak is something you can discover together.

Perhaps the toy becomes something they carry between rooms. Perhaps the tail is still getting an extremely thorough shake. Or perhaps they enjoy exactly the same game, without punctuating every mouthful.
Removing the squeak also gives us an interesting question: what else catches their attention?
Research published in Animal Cognition explored how dogs recognise toys using different senses. Dogs in one experiment could identify a previously rewarded toy in both light and darkness, but searched for longer and sniffed more in the dark.
That study wasn’t a test of squeakerless toys. What it offers is a useful glimpse of the different information a toy can hold for a dog. Its appearance isn’t the whole object, and neither is its sound.
A toy without a squeaker is still something to explore.

These aren’t ordinary squeaky toys waiting for their squeakers to stop working. They’re made without one from the beginning.
Our Hush Plush selection offers three different characters, each with its own shape and possibilities for play.
Jasper Fox is classed as a small Fluff & Tuff toy and measures approximately 28cm long.
His fox shape offers something to carry, fetch and shake, without an internal squeaker joining in. If you’re looking for a smaller member of the squeakerless family, Jasper is a good place to start.
And when the game is finished, he’s still a very soft fox to have nearby.
Finn Koi is a large toy, measuring approximately 38cm long.
His longer fish shape gives you a different option from Jasper, with separately sewn fins for extra durability. There’s plenty of plush to carry, play with or rest beside once the afternoon’s activity is done.
No squeaker required. No pond required, either.
Red Squirrel is a large toy, measuring approximately 30cm long.
The fluffy tail is part of the attraction, with a sturdy body made for chasing and tugging. He’s a lovely example of why squeaker-free doesn’t have to mean reserved: there’s nothing stopping a squirrel from having a very eventful afternoon.
Choose between them by looking at the dimensions and the shapes your dog already enjoys, rather than relying on the small or large label alone.
The appeal isn’t simply the absence of a squeaker. These are premium soft dog toys with thoughtful construction beneath the plush exterior.
Hush Plush toys share the same premium materials and construction found across the Fluff & Tuff range. The difference is the absence of a squeaker, not a compromise on how they’re made. Across the range, you’ll find:
That combination gives you softness on the outside with reinforcement underneath. Machine washing is useful too, because favourite toys rarely stay looking as though they’ve just arrived.
Orla and Kizzie have their own Fluff & Tuff collection. We appreciate toys that feel lovely while also having some substance to their construction. If you’d like to meet more of the characters, explore our full Fluff & Tuff dog toy collection, with squeaky and squeakerless favourites alike.
They are still plush play toys, not indestructible chew toys. Supervise play, check them regularly and remove a toy if damage exposes filling or loose parts.
There doesn’t have to be a problem to solve. Sometimes it’s simply another kind of toy worth discovering.
But there are a few situations where the choice makes particular sense.
Some dogs dislike particular noises, including the sound of a squeaker. If a toy’s squeak makes your dog pull away or avoid it, choosing a toy without one leaves that sound out of the interaction.
Veterinary guidance recognises that sound fears are individual and recommends reducing exposure to noises that frighten a dog. A non-squeaky toy can be a straightforward choice if it’s that specific sound they dislike, rather than a treatment for anxiety.
If making a toy squeak becomes the centre of the game, a squeakerless alternative offers a different setup.
You might bring one out for a game together, or keep it among the toys your dog can choose from. It won’t necessarily make play gentle or slow, but it removes the repeated sound while leaving other ways to enjoy the toy.
For us, that’s the useful distinction: not asking the dog to stop enjoying themselves, just offering play without that extra element.
Sometimes non-squeaky dog toys are simply what works at home.
Perhaps someone is sensitive to the noise. Perhaps there’s a sleeping household member, a shared workspace or an evening when everyone would welcome a little less squeaking.
The human experience matters too. A toy that your dog enjoys and that fits comfortably into life together has a place in the toy box.
A dog who enjoys squeaky toys can still enjoy a toy without one.
The Fellowship of Animal Behaviour Clinicians recommends offering varied enrichment activities and allowing dogs to show their preferences. That’s a useful way to think about toys: not assigning your dog to one category, but finding out what they like.
Hush Plush can be your dog’s everyday selection, an occasional alternative or simply the next character they get to meet.

Squeakerless means there is no internal squeaker. It doesn’t mean play itself will be silent.
There may still be paws on the floor, a toy landing after a throw or an enthusiastic invitation to join in.
It’s also different from a toy marketed with an ultrasonic or “silent” squeaker, which may still produce a sound intended for dogs to hear. Our Hush Plush toys leave the squeaker out altogether.
No. Look for the Hush Plush designation and check the individual product description when choosing a Fluff & Tuff squeakerless toy.
Jasper Fox, Finn Koi and Red Squirrel are the squeaker-free characters featured here. The wider Fluff & Tuff range includes toys with squeakers, so it’s worth choosing the design that offers what you’re looking for.
Some dogs love a toy that answers back. Others find plenty to enjoy without it.
You don’t have to replace every favourite or decide that squeakers are no longer welcome. You might want one quieter option, a whole squeaker-free toy box, or simply a beautifully made soft toy that offers something different.
The fun can still be busy. The toy can still be thoroughly loved.
It just doesn’t have to squeak about it.
